If you happen to be browsing your Netflix account for something to watch I would like to direct you to the 2014 documentary about racing driver Gonzalo Rodriguez. The movie follows his early racing career, from karting in his native Uruguay to the tragic practice session in the CART series at Laguna Seca. While some may mistake this movie for a poor man’s Senna , this film focuses more on the life of a racing driver. Gonchi features interviews from many large names in the racing community and highlights the close-knit fraternity of racing drivers, mechanics, owners, and even the photographers.

For those of you not familiar with Gonzalo Rodriguez, he was a promising talent from Uruguay who showed his mettle in the lower tier Formula 3000 (now GP2) series amongst future F1 drivers. He raced in that series for 3 years and won at Spa-Francorchamps, the Nurburgring, and Monaco. He was driving Formula 3000 full time and was hired on a two race lease with Penske Racing as Al Unser Jr.’s teammate in the CART series in 1999. Gonzalo was set to drive full time in the CART series for the 2000 season for Patrick Racing.

I felt the same way. They were teammates in Formula 3000 with Astromega.
